Why is a diverse bench important? Despite our expectation that we be judged by those who reflect our communities, a report (link) published by the Brennan Center for Justice found that every non-white demographic group is underrepresented in the judiciary. Even more disturbing: there has been a decrease in the number of black male judges since 1985.
GGU School of Law is one of the most diverse in the nation. Come learn how the School is capitalizing on the diversity at GGU Law to increase judicial diversity. A panel of judges from diverse backgrounds will discuss the routes they took to their judicial career on Wednesday, April 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in room 2203. A networking reception will follow. They will also share advice on improving diversity on the bench with a new generation of lawyers. Panelists will include Justice Maria Rivera, Judge Harbin-Forte, Judge Stuart Hing, Judge Victoria Kolakowski. The panel will be moderated by Dean Ramey.
To RSVP or for more info, email GGUBenchDiversity@gmail.com. The panel is sponsored by Asian American Bar Association, Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom, and GGU Law & Leadership.
