On Sept. 22, the California Bar Foundation presented GGU students Angela Haren Kelley and Luthien Niland with a 2011 Public Interest Scholarship. These prestigious scholarships recognize California law students who demonstrate a commitment to public service and academic excellence.Both Angela and Luthien were recognized for their commitment to environmental advocacy. Angela came to GGU after earning a masters degree in environmental and natural resource policy from UCLA. During her time at GGU, she has worked for the Natural Resources section of the California Office of the Attorney General, the Natural Resources Defense Council and served as an extern for US Magistrate Judge James Larson. Luthien has interned with the California Public Utilities Commission, the Sierra Club, the Environmental Law & Justice Clinic and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental Law Journal.
At the scholarship presentation, keynote speaker Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye congratulated the scholarship recipients on their accomplishments and encouraged them to remain true to their commitment to serve the needs of the community.
