Associate Dean for Law Career Services
When was the last time you googled yourself? Do you know what your digital footprint looks like? Even those of you who are vigilant about what you put on the internet might be surprised to see what information is linked to your name when you do a simple search on Google or Pipl.com. Prospective employers routinely conduct internet searches on prospective candidates; are you comfortable with what they will find about you?
As you make the transition from your prior career to law school, and again from law school to practicing law, it is particularly important to make sure that the information employers and future clients have access to is accurate and reflects your professional persona.
Here are a few quick tips:
- Search websites like Google and Pipl.com periodically to inventory the information that is available about you on the web. Take the time to correct erroneous information.
- Untag any photos of you from Facebook and other social media sites that present you in an unprofessional setting.
- Use your LinkedIn profile to create positive content that reflects your desired professional image and expertise more accurately.
