Using CLE Classes to
Assist Your Job Search

by Jan Nussbaum
Assistant Director for Professional Development

Continuing legal education ("CLE") classes are a  fantastic way to:
  • Build on your legal skills;
  • Show you are staying current; and
  • Meet and network with other attorneys who may be able to help you in your job search.
It is especially important to attend CLE classes if you are looking for work and a number of months has gone by since you've gotten any legal experience in your desired field of practice.
GGU has a unique program with the Practising Law Institute ("PLI"), a company devoted to providing legal seminars and continuing legal education classes. PLI offers free admission for up to two GGU graduates per class* for those who are not gainfully employed to attend PLI's live courses* held at their California Center, located at 685 Market Street, San Francisco. For additional details and the application form, see form here.

Each month, PLI also offers at least one free one-hour live and webinar briefing. These are posted in the upcoming networking events section of this blog.

Whether in or out of the Bay Area, full and partial scholarships to PLI's live seminars held throughout the country, webcasts and CLE Now (on-demand web programs) are available for GGU and non-GGU unemployed attorneys, judges, judicial law clerks, law professors, law students, attorneys 65 or older, law librarians, attorneys who work for nonprofit organizations, legal services organizations or government agencies. Scholarship applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the Live Seminar, Webcast, or On-Demand Web Program you wish to attend. For more information, click here.

For general information on PLI and its courses, visit www.pli.edu.

The Bar Association of San Francisco also offers a variety of CLE courses. A few are free or fee reduced. For several current offerings, see the upcoming networking events section of this blog.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Happy "PLI'ing."

*Excludes the Patent Bar Review Program.
