With the Exploring Criminal Law Panel and reception happening this Thursday, here are a few networking tips to keep in mind.
- Have an introductory speech. You will meet many people at the reception, so have a ten to fifteen second introductory speech that adequately and confidently conveys who you are. Remember that practice makes perfect, so analyze your speech and body language in the mirror.
- Dress the part. Always dress like a professional. If you question an outfit for one second, don’t wear it.
- Ask for information, not a job. Building relationships is key to a successful career. Focus on getting to know people at the reception and not on getting a job. This will pay off in the long run.
- Be enthusiastic. Show that you are excited to be at the reception and smile. If you are nervous, get acclimated to the environment by taking a quick walk around the room.
- Follow-Up. Make sure you get business cards from the people you meet. This will allow you to adequately follow-up with them after the reception.
