GGU Roundtable Workshops:
Allen Matkins and Its Co-Founders

by Nioura Foad Ghazni and Luke Welmerink
Founders of the GGU Roundtable Workshops

On October 6, Allen Matkins hosted the first of a series of workshops with students from Golden Gate University School of Law. Members of the law school’s The CAPITAL Group (Corporate, Asset-management, Property, Investment, and Tax Association of Law Students) had the opportunity to hear how John Gamble and Richard Mallory became co-founders of Allen Matkins, and how they have managed to keep the firm unique in the community. Guy Rounsaville and Dean Dru Ramey attended the event to support The CAPITAL Group in launching its first GGU Roundtable Workshop.

Mr. Gamble and Mr. Mallory shared with the students the opportunities that were presented to them after graduation and how they sought out valuable opportunities. Mr. Gamble explained how maintaining an enjoyable work environment and finding other attorneys with similar personalities is the key to a successful law firm. Following their discussion, students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain practical insight about the attorneys’ experience and how students can achieve their goals while maintaining a balance between a successful law career and personal life. Following the roundtable discussion, light refreshments and appetizers were served to create an informal environment where students then had an opportunity to speak with Mr. Gamble and Mr. Mallory in smaller groups.

The board members of The CAPITAL Group, along with the help of Guy Rounsaville, are planning subsequent workshops to be held in the San Francisco office of Allen Matkins. These workshops are geared to open roundtable discussions with students to offer insight on the practice of law not otherwise taught through substantive courses.
