Exercising is not just physical, it is mental too. Are you exercising your mind? The daily grind of the job search gets straining. Do you ever feel like you will scream if you have to click on one more job posting only to find they want an attorney with 5+ years experience? The truth is that applying for a job, regardless of the industry, sometimes feels like a never-ending process.
Enter exercising your mind. Exercising and stimulating your mind will lead to increased productivity and self confidence, and both are essential elements to staying on track with your job search. Here are a few quick and easy ways to exercise your mind:
- Read Hard Copy Newsletters. Break up your day by reading hard copies of legal newsletters. This will alleviate some stress caused by staring at your computer. LCS has copies of recent publications including the BASF Bulletin and The Recorder. Stop by to pick up these and other current legal reads.
- Read Legal Blogs. Blogs are great for easy and condensed reading on current legal news. Visit The Am Law Daily (link) for a list of legal blogs and start reading those that pertain to you.
- Do Pro Bono Work. The Law Student Pro Bono Project is open to alumni. Call or email Doan Nguyen (415-834-0100, ext. 311 or dnguyen@pic.org) to find legal work aligned with your interests and schedule.
- Write with an Attorney or Professor. Get in touch with a law school professor or an attorney and discuss writing opportunities. Writing is always one of the most valuable skills to continuously develop.
*Bonus* All these mind-exercising activities build your credentials and make you attractive to employers.
