RECENT GRAD SUCCESS SPOTLIGHT: Pete Agnoletti (GGU JD 12)

One of the greatest things about Golden Gate University has always been the sense of community among faculty, staff, students and graduates, and their willingness to help one another.  Thus, LCS has requested stories from recent graduates about what kind of work they’re doing and how they found it.  If you have insight, advice or inspiration about the job market that you want to share with your fellow graduates, please email lawcareer@ggu.edu with your story!

This week’s story is by Pete Agnoletti, who is currently working in a post-bar position for a sports and entertainment firm.  As he explains, Pete’s position can be credited to building relationships and keeping in touch.

The method to finding post-bar employment is not easy and finding something you actually enjoy doing is even tougher.  However, the process is not insurmountable. With the proper preparation and planning you can reap great rewards.
I was very fortunate to find a post-bar opportunity with Encore Sports and Entertainment.  They manage the marketing and endorsement of athletes such as Drew Brees, CC Sabathia, Sean Michaels and many others.  This for me, is the first step to living my dream, as sports was my main focus upon enrolling at Golden Gate University.
So how did I get to this point?  I was introduced to my current company by a former client who I maintained contact with before and during my time in law school.  For me, building relationships is the most important networking skill any person can possess.  Not to beat a dead horse, but the old adage “it’s all about who you know” still holds true.

Timing is a huge component to any opportunity.   I was relentless in my search for sports opportunities and when I was introduced to the CEO of Encore I made sure to leave an impression.  With constant follow-up and well-timed emails I was able to obtain an interview and then land the job.

It’s important to research not only the company but the person(s) you will be interviewing with as much as possible to give yourself an edge.  Use the information you uncover as talking points; getting to know the person will help you stand out in your interview and ultimately land the job.

Good luck in your search and remember that perseverance pays off.  The pursuit can be tireless but it only takes one “yes” to make it all worthwhile.
